It has been over a year since the pandemic began and here we are entering another Provincial Emergency and Stay-at-Home order.   There is no easy on and off switch for business. We recognize the restrictions brought in today are to help save lives and curtail the spread of the virus. However, in absence of further supports, new restrictions will simply devastate Ontario’s business community.   As the vaccine supply ramps up across the country, an expedited vaccine roll-out prioritizing essential workers who cannot work from home is critical to preventing these stops and starts that are so damaging for business. We are encouraged to learn that the province will arrange mobile teams to administer vaccines in high-risk congregate settings, residential buildings, faith-based locations, and locations occupied by large employers in hot spot neighbourhoods to individuals aged 18-and-up.   Ultimately, we all want to see a safe and sustainable opening of Ontario’s economy. We will continue to call on all levels of government to work together to accelerate vaccinating Ontarians, so we can fully reopen the province.   -Drew Redden, President & CEO of the Oakville Chamber of Commerce
