CN Not-for-Profit Award:

The CN Not-for-Profit Award honours not-for-profit organizations who are highly regarded in the area for raising funds and providing services to improve the lives of people within our community. This year the chosen recipient is Halton Women’s Place.

Halton Women’s Place’s (HWP) mission is to provide a safe haven, information, and education to support women and children to live a life free from violence. Founded in 1977, HWP operates two shelters servicing the Region of Halton, providing 24hr crisis, information support lines, outreach services, and emergency shelter. Last year, this organization provided support through 2,115 calls to the 24-hr crisis, information, and support line; 167 individuals supported through emergency shelter; and 3,829 transitional support services by phone or in person. Halton Women’s Place continues to provide comprehensive support, enhancing accessibility, inclusivity, and expanding their reach to empower women and children, and build safe communities.

Bell Community Builder Award:

The Bell Community Builder Award recognizes a business that has, over a period of time, demonstrated exemplary business practices and dedicated involvement in the community. This year the chosen recipient is MG Shore Restaurants, Tim Hortons owned and operated by Geoff Shore.

Embodying the Community Builder spirit, Geoff Shore, Owner-Operator of Tim Hortons franchises in Oakville, is involved in many community initiatives. A quick look at their social media captures the numerous fundraisers and events that Geoff and his team participate in to help raise important funds for the not-for-profit community in Oakville. Specifically, it was Geoff’s quick response and personal involvement in helping to re-settle Ukrainian refugees that brought his community involvement to the next level.  Finding jobs for many of the refugees was a first step that led to Geoff personally coordinating meetings with elected officials to ensure all avenues were being explored. Next time you pick up a Timmies, know that you are supporting a true Community Builder.

Business Icon Award:

This award recognizes a prominent Oakville business which is highly regarded in the business community. This year the chosen recipient is Cherry & Hoyle Roofing Ltd.

Cherry & Hoyle’s tagline is “Our family will take care of your family” and having opened their doors in 1953, this Oakville-based, family-owned business can attest to a long-standing iconic relationship with this community. Three generations strong, this family has been dedicated to providing quality services for both residential and commercial properties.  As the company is passed down through the generations, it is not uncommon to find repeat customers, whose work was initially constructed by the first-generation owner. The company prides itself on building long-lasting roofs, but what they cherish most of all is building long-lasting relationships with their clients.
